Forest School
Dear Parents/ Carers,
As I’m sure you’ve been already told by your little ones, we have had lots of fun in the Forest. This is what we call the little conservation area situated across the car park that we have organised for the children to experience Forest School sessions.
Forest School is an institution now, facilitating the children to have quality time outdoors, teaching them academic, but more importantly social skills. The Forest School philosophy states that every topic taught inside can be done outside, with the extra bonus of a relaxed environment, lots of fun and independence. As a matter of fact, if I am to summarise Forest School in a few words, this is what I would say: primarily promoting independence and social skills, Early Years curriculum thoroughly followed, children closely observed from a schemas perspective, lots and lots of praise and fun. And what can be better fun then that to learn about environments outside, in the middle of a miniature child friendly forest.
And as we at The Old Rectory Nursery School already believe and promote this practice, we have found it easy to embrace and follow the Forest School approach.
Just to give you a glimpse of the scale of the Forest School phenomenon, we are one of just a few Early Years settings in the London Borough of Hounslow pioneering Forest School, and across greater London there are only 3 boroughs experiencing it.
To complement my short introduction, I attach below a Forest School leaflet and for further details do not hesitate to contact us with your questions. And now, what’s left to do is just to wait for the little ones to come home and tell you all about the fantastic experiences they had in the Forest.
